Every two years world class athletes gather for summer or winter games.  Within two weeks we see a microcosm of life.  Triumph and tragedy occur side by side.  We are treated to inspiring actions and terrible failures.  So, is there anything to learn from these?

Skeptics could shrug their shoulders and say, “That’s life.”  A philosopher could offer some deep, metaphysical sermon.  But what does it mean to you beyond entertainment?  Can you draw strength from it?  Are there lessons you can pass to your children?

The luge rider who lost his life, the skater who won 5 days after her mother’s unexpected death?  The skater who was leading only to have his coach get him disqualified for a wrong lane change?  The downhill racer who crashed and punctured a lung?  The short track, half pipe, bobsled failures?

Hundreds of athletes and a few calamities.  Maybe that is the point.  Realize life has its good and bad and the good greatly outweighs the bad.  So, where do we want to concentrate; the half empty or the half full?  Our life is simply what we make it.  No matter what happens the point is that attitude is everything.
