I learned something last week that proves old dog can still learn new tricks. It seems that among the many human resources tools such as applicant tracking systems, total rewards, LMS models, performance management programs and all the rest, we have missed the essential first questions; of which there are two.

In his autobiography Walter Cronkite made a statement that I have seen confirmed so many times. It is amazing that, “Our willingness to be ignorant knows no bounds.” There is a new book out titled Thinking, Fast and Slow in which the author notes that people seem to prefer to see something and react to it (Fast) rather than spend a few minutes deliberating and trying to understand what they have just seen (Slow). As the king of Siam said in Anna and the King of Siam, “It is a puzzlement.”
