Regardless of your political persuasion you have to see the election as a symbolic day.  These events should always be viewed in broad, non partisan terms.  Whether they play out as envisioned remains to be seen.

It reminded me of 1960 when a young man arrived on the scene with a message that resonated.  It is way too early to confer on Mr. Obama any mantle of greatness.  Remember, nearly as many voted against him as they did against Kennedy in 1960.  Nevertheless, I do believe it does send a message to the world that Americans did repudiate the last 8 years and at least offers hope of a new attitude toward the world and America’s place in it.
