Forever, I have been advocating the transformation of HR administrators to become business strategists.  I feel we still have a ways to go for this transformation to be complete.

As we begin 2008, let’s focus on becoming business strategists by stepping outside of the HR comfort zones and deeply learn and know about the business enterprise.

Consider the business fundamentals and address such issues as:

  • What drives revenues?
  • Who is the customer?
  • What is the market share? How do our margins compare....internally and externally?
  • Who are our competitors and what are they doing?
  • Are earnings per share rising or falling? And why?

Then, we must search for connections between human capital investments and these outcomes.
